The River is the Answer: Restoring Flow and Function in the Cache la Poudre River Watershed

Come explore the Cache la Poudre River outside of Fort Collins, Colorado and take part in a lively discussion about restoring watershed health. We will start at scenic Gateway Natural Area in the Poudre Canyon with a half mile river hike to Seaman Reservoir. At a scenic overlook, we will discuss: Poudre River hydrology, efforts to restore flows, ideas for flow collaboration.

Our second stop is Picnic Rock. We will eat lunch and review early results from the River Health Assessment Framework (RHAF), a long-term monitoring project for the Poudre River Basin.

Our last stop showcases an urban river restoration project at the Colorado State University Environmental Learning Center completed in 2023. We will hike approximately half a mile to view a low-impact riffle crest, large wood structures, newly connected floodplain, and a native fish refugia.

Bathrooms are available at each tour stop. Bring lots of water. Please email bkuhn@fcgov.com to arrange accessibility accommodations.
