Join our long-standing tradition, Make a Difference Day, at SER2025. Make a Difference Day is a free activity available to all conference delegates. The event will take place on Tuesday, 30 September 2025.

Make a Difference Day offers delegates the opportunity to participate in hands-on restoration activities near the World Conference venue. At SER2025, participants can choose between two locations: Deer Creek Canyon Park, approximately 35 kilometers (22 miles) from the conference venue, or Daniels Park, approximately 42 kilometers (26 miles) away.

See details about these offered activities below. You can select your preferred project during the conference registration process through the conference registration portal.

Burn Scar Restoration – Deer Creek Canyon Park

Aiding the restoration of a landscape burned in the 2024 Quarry Fire, volunteers will remove invasive species and plant and seed native species in an area that was disturbed in the course of suppressing a wildfire. Volunteers will be immersed in the scrub-shrub habitat of the Rocky Mountain foothills where fire risk is significant and ongoing, and able to see the effects of recent fire and recovery after one year.

Host: Jefferson County Open Space
Capacity: ~30
Difficulty:  easy to moderate
All necessary equipment including tools, water, and lunch will be provided.

Low-Tech Stream Restoration – Daniels Park (Denver Mountain Parks)

This stream-focused restoration project will teach volunteers about low-tech, process-based restoration in a small drainage through Daniels Park. Volunteers can choose the level of difficulty using natural materials to slow water flow and increase area of saturation. Part of the Colorado rimrock landscape, the habitat is Foothills-High Plains and offers an amazing view from Pikes Peak (south) to the Snowy Range in Wyoming (north). Daniels Park is home to the Tall Bull Memorial Grounds, reserved for Native Americans who use the site for ceremonies; it is also thought to be the location of Kit Carson’s last known campfire and historically operated as a ranch so has some artifacts from this more recent history.

Host: Wildlands Restoration Volunteers
Capacity: 50
Difficulty: Easy to difficult
All necessary equipment including tools and waders, water, and lunch will be provided.
